Your emotions are not the problem; the speed of your reaction is. When stressful environments or difficult interactions hit, the body reacts quickly, and the mind often follows an old script. I’m Dr. Christopher Kevin Slaton, and in this episode I walk you through a practical, brain-based learning cycle that helps you slow that moment down, notice what is happening inside you, and choose a better response without denying what you feel.  You’ll learn two connected loops you can rehearse anywhere: sense, feel, focus; then receive, process, respond. The first loop helps you recognize your state of mind and fully register the experience. The second loop helps you turn that experience into information your brain can reflect on, so memory becomes insight instead of a trigger. Along the way, we draw a clear line between a mental state built from past experience and real thinking that happens through reflection, awareness, and deliberate choice.  We also stress-test the framework where life actually happens: at home, at school, in the neighborhood, and at work. These settings add pressure, shape identity, and tempt you to perform a character instead of acting like yourself. If you have been stuck in reactive patterns, this episode gives you a clear, repeatable method for emotional regulation, self-awareness, and smarter decision-making. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs a reset, and leave a review with the situation where you most want to pause before you respond.
